Olmsted Parks Conservancy

Website

Challenge:
The Boo La La Halloween Ball is the largest and most festive fundraiser for the Louisville Olmsted Conservancy, which works to restore and enhance the city’s Frederick Law Olmsted Parks. For 2010, borrowing from a classic Frankenstein movie scene, Power established “It’s alive!” as the theme for the event. The challenge was to come up with a way to create excitement around the theme and connect it to the Conservancy’s efforts to save the parks and trees.

Answer:
The Boo La La Ball microsite promotes the “It’s alive!” theme and event with a campy, movie-style trailer and supporting graphics. The Power-produced trailer video features a mad conservationist who finds himself on a frenzied mission to create tree life. Designed in Flash, the website incorporates fun and visually interesting elements, including blood-dripping navigation links, eyes that follow cursor movement and an Igor-type character that changes to a tombstone upon a click. The site also prominently features ticket and contact information.
