One week ago today numerous EF-4 tornados rolled thru North Pekin, Marysville and Henryville in southern Indiana and West Liberty in eastern Kentucky packing reportedly 175 mph winds causing death and total devastation. Early Saturday morning I traveled just 19 miles north of Louisville to Henryville, Indiana, and the scenes that I witnessed there were mind-numbing. A school bus that truly minutes before the twister hit had been loaded with young school children was thrown inside a local diner. Read more
Snowfall in the Louisville area has been very light this winter. In fact including the .3 inch that fell overnight, we now have received only 2.1 inches for the 2011-2012 winter season, which is far below the yearly 14.7 inch average for the area. Nonetheless, the dusting provided some very beautiful images as captured here by Power Creative Senior Photographer Bill Miller. Read more

The University of Louisville School of Music is steeped in more than 75 years of history. As just one example of that history, in November 1959, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century stopped by for lunch at the School of Music. His name was Dmitri Shostakovich. At the time, he was a huge musical figure in the Soviet Union. He happened to be in Louisville as part of a goodwill tour with five other Soviet musical artists at the height of the Cold War. The Maestro insisted that he see and hear what American college students were doing musically. Read more
