Starting Points… and Finish Lines

Recently, I went out to cheer my brother-in-law and watch 2,800 other incredibly talented (yet certifiably crazy) athletes participate in an Iron Man triathlon event.  As I watched them triumphantly cross the finish line - many of them clearly dazed and struggling - I wondered not only what made them push onward, but should they have? At what point does the desire to excel and achieve become...dangerous?

Fast forward to a business meeting two days later, where the topic of online retargeting was debated. The questions that arose were similar - when does the desire to push our message closer to the consumer point of sale become “dangerous"...and at what point should we make ourselves stop?

As technology marches forward, these questions continue to be asked to media and marketing professionals as we present the “latest and greatest” way to reach our target audience. Different theories abound and most will be tested and optimized based on a client’s need at a specific time (all which makes extrapolated learnings difficult to transfer).  We learn and we grow...and then the rules change again.

The Power Creative media department is ready to meet these daily challenges and will use this space as a place for idea sharing and thought-starting.  We will explore issues as media professionals and as consumers in the hopes of generating platforms for continued growth.  (We may even throw in a few pop culture references along the way, if only to set another marker in time for these posts.)

Hey, we know we aren’t Iron Men...but we do get up earlier than most, try to avoid injuries on a daily basis (although ours are more “stress-induced” than “stress fracture”), and chase a finish line even more elusive than theirs - the digital media horizon.  Let’s lace ‘em up and get rolling...
