CGI

Establishing shot

First, let's get this out of the way… I'm not a writer, I’ve never blogged before, I don’t tweet, I don’t even have a Facebook account, so how am I supposed to start this thing out?  I don't want to create a plain old introduction because what fun is that?  So instead I'll create an establishing shot:

Violin plays a somber tune as rain is heard.  Fade in to reveal a man sleeping on a bus, his head is leaning against the window.  The books on his lap of 3D Rigging and MEL reference slip and fall onto the floor of the bus as the bus hits a bump.  This startles him awake, quickly reminding him that he'd rather be home with his wife.  He’s clearly exhausted and somewhat sleep deprived.  Not from the work itself, but from the long days, the six years of commuting back and forth from NJ, and from the need to work all the time because of the obnoxious cost of living.  Insert over-dramatic opening credits here.

That's not too far off actually.  So began the chain of events that led me to my current Position at Power Creative here in Louisville as an Associate Creative Director of CGI.  I had the good fortune of working with some Power people in the past and we worked so well together and had such a great time that it wasn't much longer before I accepted a great opportunity which had enormous mutual potential.  It was a no-brainer for us and so my wife and I left everything we knew behind and moved out to Louisville.  It was definitely the best decision we could have made at that time.

I was the token 3D guy for a while which is always tough to manage, but fortunately we have since been able to integrate our workflow with the agency and grow the department.  More growth is expected soon, so stay tuned for news on that (shameless plug).  As we continue to press on, we're excited to try new things, learn, and evolve.

Now that you have some foundation for how we got here, we'd like to explain what you can expect from our regular posts here.  We're always doing internal jobs for fun, or R&D, or for training and we'd like to share those things here.   We'll also share things like departmental news, industry news, and things we find that are inspirational or just feel like sharing because we can.  Our field changes so rapidly that it is always nice to share information and have others share it with us.  Collaboration is key for keeping things fresh and interesting.  Often places like this are where we'll get answers to challenges we face.  So if we can help someone else in the same manner, it seems worth it.

By the way, this image is a 3D white light scan of my head that I did a few years back to learn the process.  It was pretty fun to try out.
