When Power Creative photographer Ted Wirth was assigned with the task of photographing the sculpture "Big Red", by Tom Lear for a brochure cover for the University of Louisville College of Business, the veteran lensman knew all too well that literally thousands of photographs had been exposed of the metal artwork since it was dedicated in June 1990. The University of Louisville School of Music is steeped in more than 75 years of history. As just one example of that history, in November 1959, one of the greatest composers of the 20th century stopped by for lunch at the School of Music. His name was Dmitri Shostakovich. At the time, he was a huge musical figure in the Soviet Union. He happened to be in Louisville as part of a goodwill tour with five other Soviet musical artists at the height of the Cold War. The Maestro insisted that he see and hear what American college students were doing musically. Read more
On a recent morning Friendship House located in Old Louisville was filled with activity. Friendship House is run by Christian Care Communities, Kentucky’s largest faith-based not-for-profit provider of affordable senior retirement living and long-term care for older adults. CCC was founded in Louisville in 1884 to take care of widows and orphans, and now serves older adults through an extensive network of retirement communities. The University of Louisville's Kent School of Social Works works hand in hand with CCC and Friendship House. Read more
